The purpose of the Physical Plant Confined Space Program is to identify confined spaces and their hazards, and provide the necessary training to facilitate safe entry. The written confined space program establishes procedures that are to be used for entry into confined spaces. Physical Plant employees are required to adhere to the program at all times when entry into a vessel is performed.
The Training and Compliance Office (TCO) maintains a list of identified permit and non-permit confined spaces on campus that Physical Plant employees may enter, with detailed entry procedure documents. UVM NetID account holders that have taken the Confined Space Training offered by TCO, can directly access the Confined Space List (link opens in new window).*
Other departments and hired-contractors may follow their own program providing it is submitted to the Loss Prevention Specialist or Safety Programs Coordinator prior to performing work. All contractor confined space entry programs will be reviewed to assure that they are at least as stringent as UVM’s program. It is the explicit responsibility of the Contractor to train and educate their employees prior to assigning them work at UVM.
*If you are not authorized and feel you should be please contact us. Contractors, please contact your project coordinator/manager for a list of identified permit and non-permit confined spaces.
